Burnham-On-Sea mother nominated for UK’s Mum of The Year title

-

Sue Stevens, 71, has made it to the final 26 nominees of the Mum of the Year Awards 2015.

The mother of three and grandmother of six has dedicated more than 30 years of her life to raising funds for children in Kenya through charitable events in Burnham.

Sue has been involved with the charity Educate the Kids for over 16 years in order to try and help feed, educate and give clothes to children in one of the poorest regions of Kenya.

Sue said: “It’s a little overwhelming to be honest and I was so surprised to find out I had been nominated because I have been fundraising for so long, but it’s wonderful.”

The competition’s sponsor, Tesco, has given £1,000 towards the charity in announcing that Sue is on the Tesco shortlist for the mum of the year award.

Sue’s next fundraiser is this coming Saturday, November 15th, at Burnham Methodist Church when she’ll be holding a coffee morning from 10am-2pm.

Sue makes regular trips to Kenya, taking clothes and goods that she has collected and sorted herself and she says seeing the children benefit is what keeps her motivated.
