Burnham-On-Sea Lions appoints Mike as its new President

-

Outgoing Burnham-On-Sea Lions President Les Barber handed over the chain of office to incoming President Mike Wise at a dinner in the town on Saturday night (July 5th).

Les thanked members for their support during an active year of fundraising and other events for the group.

Mike said he has been proud to be a Lion for almost 13 years, starting with Loddon Valley Lions in Hampshire in 2001 and moving to Somerset in 2010.

He has been Secretary for over two years and previously held positions of fundraiser, ‘Lion tamer’ and Community Chairman.

“I am looking forward to our new major new fundraising event, A Walk Through History, which takes place at the Oaktree Arena over the August Bank Holiday Weekend involving numerous re-enactment groups from medieval times to World War II,” he said. “We will also be providing support to the Hospital Fete in Burnham’s Manor Gardens.”

“Lions not only work hard to raise money and make a difference to the local community, but we also have fun! We welcome new members to improve your social life as well as to help others.”

Those interested in finding out more about how to get involved should contact Claire, the group’s membership secretary, on 07882612515.

The annual dinner was held at the Somerset and Dorset pub’s restaurant in Burnham High Street.
