Visitors flocked to cool off in Burnham-On-Sea at the weekend when the town saw its hottest temperatures of the year so far.

Thermometers hit 25.8C (78.4F) at 4pm on Sunday, exceeding the previous record for the year which was set on Friday.

The beaches and seafront were extra busy on Sunday, as pictured here, when visitors took to the sea for a cooling dip.

A Chamber of Trade spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a busy weekend for local tourism businesses in the Burnham area with the weather attracting extra visitors. Many firms are hoping the good weather continues during the school holidays too, which are now just a month away.”

Burnham Pavilion manager Louise Parkin added: “It was a busy weekend, with busy sales of drinks, ice creams and fish and chips. It was positive, but I think the Weston Air Day may have reduced the overall number of visitors in Burnham.”

Further good weather is also forecast during the first half of this week.
