Burnham sees its hottest day of the year so far as heatwave continues

-

The hottest day of the year so far in Burnham-On-Sea saw beach goers cooling off in the sea on Thursday (July 24th) – and the heatwave is forecast to continue over the weekend.

Thermometers hit 30.2C (86.3F) at 5.19pm on Thursday, exceeding the previous record set earlier this month.

Beaches in Burnham, Brean and Berrow have been busy, with many visitors paddling or swimming to cool off.

Burnham’s beach warden said there had been an estimated 600 people on the town’s beach mid-afternoon on Thursday, with the busy school holiday period now well underway.

Further good weather is forecast by the Met Office over the next few days as the hot spell continues in the region. Most holiday parks and camp sites in the area are reporting bumper trade.

Thursday’s temperatures peaked at 30.2C and saw an average daytime (6am-6pm) temperature of 24.2C, according to Brent Knoll weather station.
