Proposals to expand the facilities at Burnham Holiday Village and create new jobs have been given a thumbs up by town councillors this week.
Members of the Town Council’s Planning Applications Committee gave their support to the scheme at a meeting on Wednesday night (October 22nd).
The holiday park in Marine Drive wants to revamp its front entrance, create a new activity zone and open a new fish and chip restaurant and take-away. Haven says the revamp will mean extra staff will be required.
Cllr Bill Hancock said at the meeting: “I fully support plans like this which add more facilities for tourists and create new jobs with minimal impact for nearby residents.”
Cllr Paul Young added: “The plans will expand the existing building already in place and, as the building will be at least 100metres from nearby homes, there will be little impact on others.”
The firm’s application states: “By reducing the arcade and adding family activities and services, the facilities will be more family friendly. The proposal will enhance facilities and be more appealing to customers that will help to increase visitor numbers as well as retain existing users of the site.”
“The frontage to the building will be significantly improved with the redeveloped landscaping and the redesigned entrance which incorporates the use of coastal materials and detailing.”
A final decision on whether to grant approval rests with Sedgemoor District Council. A consultation period for residents to make comments is underway until October 29th, quoting application 11/14/00111.
