Some of the groups who are taking part in a historical re-enactment event in Highbridge this summer are meeting at the Oaktree Arena this weekend to plan the event.

The summer event – called A Walk Through History – will be held at the Oaktree on Sunday 24th and Monday 25th August.

There are already more than 15 re-enactment groups taking part who will be living their times and putting on displays.

“As part of the planning process of this year’s event, a few of the historical groups are setting up their camps this weekend. Until Monday representatives will be camping and living as they did in their era,” said one of the event’s organisers, Ian Jefferies.

Co-organiser Les Barber added: “Members of the public that have an interest in historical re-enactment are welcome to visit us for free this weekend, find out more about the groups, chat to the re-enactors and look at all the equipment.”

Buck Day, from The Confederate and Union Reenactment Society, added: “This is a taster to what will be taking place in August at this entertaining and educational event. Come and see how life was in the eras we portray and please come along to learn more about living history.”

The August event will include shows of classis cars, steam rollers, static engines and amusements for the family. For more information, visit the website here.
