Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club is set to be ‘homeless’ from this Saturday after failing to find a new location to build its cart, putting its participation in this year’s carnival in jeopardy.

As first reported here, the club recently issued an urgent appeal to find a site but despite several enquiries and suggestions no new home has been found.

The club – which is due to celebrate its 40th anniversary this year – says its entry into this year’s procession is in doubt unless it can find a new venue.

Hillview Chairman Mark Bishop told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “We have to leave our current base in Highbridge this Saturday, because it’s being sold, which means we will effectively be homeless with nowhere to store our existing cart.”

“Since our first appeal earlier in the month, several people have come forward with potential sites but none of them has been suitable. It’s been fruitless.”

“We’re now really, really desperate to find a local, secure site to build our cart.”

“We still hope that a local person or business might be able to offer us a barn, a large outbuilding or an industrial park unit in the area.”

He added: “Unless we can quickly find somewhere, it puts our entry in this year’s carnival at risk which in our 40th anniversary year is really gutting.”

Mark said that the club is in a good shape otherwise. “We have a great team of volunteers this year ready to help and our fundraising has been going well so it’s so all the more important that we’re able to build a good cart.”
