A series of guided walks around Burnham-On-Sea are set to be launched this summer.

Burnham-On-Sea Town Team has been awarded a grant of £560 from Sedgemoor District Council’s Community Health Fund to launch the unique walks.

“The five themed guided walks, which will be led by local residents, will be offered free of charge over the summer,” said Town Team Chairwoman Phoebe Pearce.

“The walks, which will have maritime, wartime, railway, Victorian and industrial themes, will provide gentle exercise over 2-3 hours covering an average of three miles over easy terrain.”

“As well as encouraging healthy exercise, the walks will also help people learn a little more about the fascinating background of the town.”

“An illustrated leaflet with details about each route and the landmarks that will be visited will be available from Burnham’s tourist information centre.”

A launch date and further information will be announced over the next few weeks.

The walks are one of several initiatives and events being planned by Burnham Town Team, which is run by volunteers for the benefit of the town. The Town Team can also provide road closure barriers and signs to local groups holding events in the town.
