Groups and individuals in the Burnham-On-Sea area can apply for a total of £70,000 of Small and Project Grants from Sedgemoor District Council.

The council is seeking applications to be considered during June.

Small grants are aimed at funding individuals, up to £500, to undertake projects such as volunteering or learning new skills that will be of benefit to their local community.

Small grants can be used to assist with individuals involved in the arts and regional or national sports competitions. Individuals must be residents of Sedgemoor. No more than 75% of the total project cost can be applied for.

Project grants are one-off grants, up to £2,500, aimed at supporting voluntary, community and not-for-profit organisations to undertake projects that support people living in the district.

The council says it will be supporting a diverse range of projects and adds that no more than 50% of the total project cost can be applied for.

Decisions on grant applications are made by the Grants Award Sub-Committee and they meet approximately every six weeks. The first meeting of the 14/15 budget year will be held on the 17th June 2014. The deadline for application to be heard at this meeting is the 30th May 2014.
