Gale-forced winds hit the Burnham-On-Sea area on Saturday (May 10th), causing two incidents for fire crews – and creating great conditions for windsurfers.

Burnham-On-sea firefighters were called out twice on Saturday due to incidents caused by the strong winds.

An advertising sign was reported to be in a dangerous position at the Co-operative funeral care centre in Adam Street at 4.10pm. The fire crew used ladders to secure the sign.

They were also called out again at 7.40pm to Julian Acres in Burnham where a bonfire had blown out of control, spreading to several nearby conifer trees. The blaze was quickly brought under control.

The winds, which gusted up to 60mph, provided perfect conditions for windsurfers in Bridgwater Bay, as shown above, with strong onshore winds and rough seas.
