The final countdown is underway to this Saturday’s Burnham-On-Sea Food and Drink Festival.

The organisers say the event on May 24th from 9am will be even bigger than previous festivals.

Over 80 stallholders and chefs from across Somerset will offer tastings, samples and opportunities for visitors to hear the stories behind their products. Over half the stalls are indoors, so any wet weather will not impact the event.

Glenn Cosby, a contestant from the BBC’s ‘Great British Bake Off 2013’ will be bringing his UK tour to The Princess Theatre on Friday (May 23rd) to launch the festival.

His live cooking show, called ‘Bake It Big with Glenn Cosby’, will let the audience get up close and personal with him as he makes his trademark bakes.

Visitors can buy tickets on a ‘buy one and get one free’ basis, so audience members can get to see him for as little as £6 each.

Tickets for this special event are available from The Princess Theatre’s box office on 01278 784464 betweeen 10am and 3pm, quoting this special offer.

The whole evening will be filmed by a TV production company for the preview show of this year’s ‘Great British Bake Off’.

Glenn will then be in town for the Food and Drink Festival itself the following day – Saturday May 24th – when he’ll be the star judge of ‘The Great Burnham Bake Off’, the town’s popular baking contest.

The festival will also include the Burnham Brew Off and a Chilli Cook-Off which will include the south west heats of The UK Chilli Cook-Off.

Three venues will be busy during Saturday with stallholders – the Baptist Hall, Methodist Church and Princess Theatre. Several great chef demonstrations will take place through the day, as featured here.

Visitors will also be able to claim a free stick of rock from Burnham’s Sweet Shack as they enter.

“Excitement is growing for what promises to be a superb event,” Festival Director Beverley Milner Simonds told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “There will be lots to see and do throughout the day, whatever the weather.”

Burnham Mayor Cllr Martin Cox added: “I’m delighted that the festival is returning again this Saturday with more attractions and stalls than ever before – I intend to be there for the whole day!”

Entry to the festival will be free and venues open at 9am. Several roads in the town centre will be closed during the day with diversions in operation. More details are online here.
