The countdown to this month’s fifth Burnham-On-Sea Food and Drink Festival got underway last night (Tuesday) with a special launch party.

Burnham’s Mayor Martin Cox was among the guests at the event, held at Benton Furniture in Highbridge, which provided a sneak peak at what will be happening.

The organisers, Bev and Sarah Milner Simonds, say the event on Saturday October 25th will be bigger than ever and will become Somerset’s largest food festival.

92 traders will offer tastings, samples and opportunities for visitors to hear the stories behind the products, which will range from local Somerset specialities like cider and cheese to Japanese cuisine and chocolate made from goat’s milk.

The festival will also include the Great Burnham Bake Off, Burnham Brew Off and the Burnham Burn Off competitions.

Stalls will be set up in Victoria Street, College Street and Princess Street plus three venues will also be busy with stallholders – the Baptist Hall, Methodist Church and Princess Theatre.

There will also be a display of British tractors and sheep in the town centre that will act as an attraction to promote Somerset’s rural countryside.

A busy programme of cooking demonstrations will also be held at the event with tips and advice on offer from a range of chefs who will be taking inspiration from the game season for a wild harvest. The demos will be held on the ‘KDS Fresh Ideas Stage’ from 12 noon and then every hour in the Baptist Church.

“With just a few days to go before the event, a real buzz is building for this year’s festival,” said Bev. “With 92 traders booked in, we are looking forward to holding Somerset’s biggest food festival.”

Burnham Mayor Cllr Martin Cox told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’m delighted the festival is returning again this month with more attractions and stalls than ever. I congratulate Bev and Sarah for their infectious enthusiasm with this event, which brings many people into the town.”
