A BBC radio presenter got a chance to become a rescue hovercraft pilot for a day during a special visit to Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday (December 6th).

Emma Britton from BBC Somerset visited BARB Search & Rescue to record a segment for her daily breakfast show.

She was taught to fly the charity’s life-saving ‘Spirit Of Lelaina’ hovercraft by BARB’s volunteer pilot Wayne Kilgallon.

Emma said afterwards: “It was very exciting to be able to fly the hovercraft – I’d never been in one before. The weather was perfect with calm conditions and I had a great teacher.”

“I had a superb time and have learnt a huge amount – if I lived in Burnham I’d genuinely love to be a part of the team.”

“BARB is run so professionally and I am full of admiration for their work.”

The ‘Emma Tries’ segment, which features her trying action-packed challenges across the county, will be broadcast on the radio station during the next fortnight.
