Easter egg decorating contest at local school judged by VIP guest

-

Burnham-On-Sea pensioner Arthur Gilbert – who is well-known for being the world’s oldest triathlete – was the VIP judge at a school’s Easter egg competition.

The children at West Huntspill School were invited to decorate hard boiled eggs in the contest, judged by Arthur.

The 93 year-old also gave the pupils some inspiring stories of his time in the RAF.

He also enjoyed hearing about the sporting achievements of the children, especially those who had taken in the recent swimming gala at Burnham Pool.

Prizes were awarded for a winner in each year group with the winners including Reception (Grace), Year 1 (Kacie), Year 2 (James), Year 3 (Jack), Year 4 (Emily-Anne), Year 5 (Daisy) and Year 6 (Elicia). The overall winner was Oliver in Year 2.

The judging was followed by a chocolate tombola and raffle to raise funds for the PTA (£150). Jenny Parfitt, West Huntspill PTA Events co-ordinator, said the successful event had been much enjoyed by everyone and she thanked Mr Gilbert for attending.
