Highbridge dance students celebrate award win at Axbridge Carnival

-

Students from a Highbridge dance school are celebrating this weekend after scooping a top award at yesterday’s Axbridge Carnival.

The musicals was the theme of Saturday’s Axbridge Carnival and students from Highbridge’s Curtain Call wowed the judges with their entry ‘Oz-tastic’ and were awarded first prize in the walking entries category for a second year running.

Patricia Ham, the Principal of Curtain Call, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are very proud to have won the ‘best open walking entry’ again!”

“The carnival’s theme this year was ‘the musicals’ which is something Curtain Call is passionate about, so we decided to perform a medley of three Oz-based musicals, the classic ‘Wizard of Oz’, The West End smash hit ‘Wicked’ and the disco version ‘The Wiz’.”

“The students danced, sang and acted their hearts out to a substantial audience that had lined the route for the event.”

Burnham-On-Sea’s MP Tessa Munt was one of the judges and said she thought the munchkins were “adorable”.

The carnival processed through the square at Axbridge and then made a pit stop at Axbridge Court Nursing Home where all the dance school’s budding ballerinas showed off their pointed toes, twirls and curtseys to the enthralled residents!

The students were aged from four years upwards and were from both the Axbridge branch and Highbridge studio.

“It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to dress up and show off their talents and we are thrilled to have another trophy to polish!” added Patricia.

“We certainly didn’t expect to win again, although we pulled out all the stops for a fabulous display. It’s thanks to the support of parents and dedication of staff and students who rose to the occasion!”

“We are now rehearsing for and very much looking forward to the Christmas period, which is always a busy time for Curtain Call as we are constantly in demand for festive concerts and performances.”

“The students love to entertain, so if there are any perspective children who would like to be involved with these activities, don’t hesitate to get in touch,” she added.
