A big crowd of over 20,000 people lined Burnham-On-Sea’s streets to see the town’s spectacular carnival on Monday night.

Over 45 carts and 45 walking individuals carts paraded through the town for the 67th annual Highbridge and Burnham Carnival.

Despite light rain through the evening, there were large crowds of spectators along the route and organisers said it had been a bumper event.

The results, listed here, saw Hucky Duck Carnival Club win the award for the best entry in the whole procession for its dazzling cart In Flanders Fields.

The biggest cheers of the night, though, were for Burnham’s Hillview Carnival Club, whose Jungle Fever entry, pictured right, proved popular with spectators.

The club came first in the juvenile class and it was also named best local entry – much to the delight of its members in their 40th anniversary year.

This year’s Carnival Queens, Emma Nicholson, 2007 Queen Kayley Elton, 2005 Queen Chloe Baker and Sian Fisher from Hillview Carnival Club led the procession through the town.

“It was a brilliant evening – the crowds were up on last year and lots of donations were coming in,” Carnival Treasurer Jonathan Walter told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“There was a great atmosphere and we thank everyone who came along and supported the night.”
