A community group which holds a series of free outdoor music concerts in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge each summer has this week secured funding for this year’s events.

The Burnham and Highbridge Cultural Arts and Development Society (CADS) organises the popular concerts in Burnham’s Manor Gardens and on Highbridge’s town green.

The Town Council’s Policy and Finance Committee last night (Monday) agreed to award the group a grant of £2,500 towards the costs of running them.

The 2014 schedule includes Party In The Park on May 11th, Jazz In The Park on June 8th, Picnic In the Park on July 13th and a Highbridge event on August 3rd.

Mike Murphy, the Chairman of CADS, right, had warned in 2012 that without regular funding from the Town Council the number of events would have to be cut back.

However, town councillors gave their backing to the application during Monday’s meeting.

Councillor Ken Smout said: “These events are great for the town and are always excellent shows that are much appreciated by residents and visitors alike.”

Cllr Phil Harvey added: “They are super events and I think we should give our support.”
