A group of Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge girls has come to the rescue of an opera being staged in Bridgwater.
Bridgwater Amateur Operatic Society was finding it difficult to get a full cast together for their spring production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘The King and I’.
It’s a big production requiring a cast of 60 people and the society found it was particularly short of dancers.
After an appeal was issued, Burnham and Highbridge dance schools Lucy Gunter and Curtain Call came to the rescue.
Six girls from Burnham and Highbridge have joined the Operatic Society and have been attending rehearsals since the beginning of January. They are pictured here with two others from Burnham, Rachael Berry who is playing Lady Thiang, and Felicity Berry, who plays Tuptim.
Now the show is ready to go and first night is this coming Wednesday. Producer Tony Edwards says the director and choreographer are “absolutely delighted” with the professionalism and hard work shown by the new members, who are a very important part of what is going to be a stunning production at Bridgwater Town Hall.
The show, which is costing £20,000 to put on, runs from Wednesday 30th April until Saturday 3rd May at 7.15pm each evening with a matinee at 2.15pm on Saturday. Tickets are still available at the box office or by ringing Sue Pomeroy on 01278 662181.
