A new group of Beavers and Cubs in Berrow is holding a series of taster sessions starting tonight (Wednesday) when newcomers are welcome.
The 1st Berrow Scout Group is holding the open evening for children of Beavers age (5¾ – 8) and Cubs age (8-10½).
Youngsters and adults interested in joining are welcome as the new Cub pack and Beaver colony are formed.
“We will be running taster nights for Beavers as well as offering places in Cubs to all those that attended the recent open night,” said spokesman Benjamin Powlesland.
“We have had some response from adults wishing to volunteer and this means that with the support of Lucy from the Cubs section we can host a taster session for Beavers, which is great news. However, we will only be able to run the taster night for children that are able to come with a parent for the evening.”
“We will hold a meeting with parents during the taster evenings to discuss how best to support the new Beaver Section. If further support can be identified, we will be able to offer 3 more taster sessions for Beavers.”
The Group is looking for leaders and helpers for Beavers and Cubs but there are various roles available – not all of which are leadership.
All training is provided by the Scout Association. Our open evening is an opportunity for children to try out a range of fun activities and to find out more about joining Beavers and Cubs. Beavers and Cubs is open to girls as well as boys.
The four free taster nights for Beavers are on the 12th & 26th February and 5th & 12th March 2014.
Following the taster weeks a decision will then be made on whether Beavers open depending on adult support.
•The Beavers will meet from 5:30 – 6:30pm at Berrow C of E School.
•The Cubs meet from 6:30 – 8pm at Berrow C of E School
