Winners of town’s Great Burnham Bake Off are announced

-

Dozens of home-made cakes, shortcakes and bread went on display when local bakers competed in The Great Burnham Bake Off during the town’s Food and Drink Festival on Saturday.

More than 20 bakers battled it out for the top spot – with the entries being judged by Matt Faulkner from BBC Somerset, local business owner Debbie March and Sedgemoor District Council’s Vicky Banham (all pictured top).

Cakemaker Kate Heappey won the overall champion’s trophy after her Halloween-themned cake was judged the best in show.

The competition, sponsored by Burnham’s Positive Wealth Creation, also saw prizes awarded to Steve Bird (best individual bread), Kate Heappey (best individual cake), Dusica Roberts (best professional cake), Trish Mander (technical challenge), and the Winstone family (best family entry).

Judge Matt Faulkner from BBC Somerset told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The entries were fantastic – it was great to see such enthusiasm and talent being shown.”

Sponsor Alex Turco from Positive Wealth Creation added: “It was great to see such a high turnout of great quality entries – we are delighted to give our support to this wonderful event.”

The next Great Burnham Bake Off will take place next May during the Spring Burnham-On-Sea Food & Drink Festival – more details will be announced here in the run-up to the event.
