Two Burnham-On-Sea army cadets picked to represent Somerset

-

Two Burnham-On-Sea army cadets have been selected to represent Somerset’s Army Cadet Force at a national level later this month in football and cross country.

Tiger Oatley-Summers, who is the regional cross country champion, and Daniel Mortimer, a keen footballer, will be taking part.

Platoon Commander ‘Lt Kat Dee’ said that to be chosen to represent the region is a fantastic achievement for the cadets and the Burnham Platoon.

He added: “We have some really talented young people in Burnham’s Platoon and it is great that the Army Cadet Force can help them reach their full potential.”

As an Army Cadet, members have the option to take part in a variety of sports and competitions such as athletics, cross country, swimming, football, rugby, hockey and tug-of-war. All involve both boys and girls, apart from rugby (boys only) and hockey (girls only). Many thousands of cadets all over the country are regularly building their confidence and learning teamwork skills in a spirit of healthy competition.

Senior cadets can apply for the Community Sports Leadership Course, which is currently run twice a year and leads to the Sports Leaders UK Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership.

Youngsters aged between 12 and 18 who want to get involved with sport or any of the other opportunities offed by the army cadet platoon should contact the Cadet Executive Officer on 01823 284486, pop into the platoon or visit here.

The group is also looking for adult volunteers and anyone who has a few spare hours a week is very welcome. The platoon parades between 7-9pm every Monday and Wednesday evening.
