Police have warned motorists in Burnham-On-Sea to take extra care on local roads after fresh snow fell in the town.

Several centimetres of snow has fallen and then frozen, causing hazardous road conditions for drivers and slippery pavements for pedestrians.

The Met Office predicts temperatures will only climb to 2 or 3 degrees Centigrade during Wednesday, with further freezing conditions overnight.

Main roads have been cleared and gritted in the Burnham area by Somerset County Council to try and minimise travel disruption, but many minor roads are untreated.

A Met Office spokesman said: “The public should be aware of the risk of localised disruption to transport during this spell of wintry weather.”

The freezing conditions are expected to continue until later this week. Temperatures will rise to 7 degrees Centigrade on Saturday.
