80 cars ready to roar into action at Brean Rally… weather permitting

-

Over 80 entries will take part in the 17th annual Brean Rally at the village’s Leisure Park this coming weekend.

The 2013 K&R Mitsubishi Stages Rally will be held on Saturday January 26th and Sunday 27th, weather permitting, and will form the opening round of the Association of South Western Motor Clubs and the Cotswold Motor Sport Group Rally Championships.

The rally will be held entirely within the confines of Brean Leisure Park and an impressive line-up of rally cars is due to tackle the 12 special stages over the two days.

However, organisers are closely monitoring this week’s wintry weather and are hoping for a rapid thaw before the weekend. Any updates will appear here on Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Top seeds for this year’s event are Peter Lloyd from South Wales driving a Subaru Impreza S14 WRC. Peter has won this event over the last four consecutive years and will be out to make it a fifth.

But trying hard to stop him will Martyn England from Ilminster, Mitsubishi EVO, Steve Furzeland from Plymouth, Subaru Impreza S12 WRC, Karl Broad from Taunton, Subaru Impreza WRC, Mike Threlfall also from Taunton Mitsubishi EVO and newcomer to Brean Peter Elkins from Westbury, Wiltshire Ford Focus WRC.

A covered seated grandstand and snacks will be available in all spectator areas. Spectators will be admitted to the park over both days for an admission charge of just £5 (accompanied children under 12 will be admitted free) and car parking £5. Gates open on both days from 8.30am.

Technical scrutineering of the cars takes place within the park on Friday afternoon, with the rally getting under way at 10am on Saturday morning.
