Police urge vigilance after car break-ins in Burnham and Highbridge

Police in Burnham-On-Sea have this week urged motorists in the town to be extra vigilant following several opportunistic break-ins.

Car radios and satellite navigation systems have been stolen by thieves in Burnham and Highbridge over the past few days, prompting the security warning.

Inspector Roger Tolley told "On Monday, a window of a parked Volkswagen was smashed in Willet Close and a thief then removed a set of speakers and a stereo radio."

"The same day we were called to a separate incident in Kinver Terrace where a satellite navigation system and a stereo were stolen in a break-in to a vehicle."

He added: "Since there have been several similar incidents elsewhere in the district - in Cheddar - this week we would ask car owners to make sure that valuables are not left in sight when possible. Sat nav systems should be removed and stored inside homes when not in use."

Inspector Tolley also appealed for anyone in the Burnham area who has been offered cheap car radio or sat nav systems this week to get in touch with Burnham Police Station on 0845 456 7000 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
