Yachtsman
Tony Bullimore to visit Burnham-On-Sea charity's AGM
Well-known
yachtsman Tony Bullimore will be the special guest at a Burnham-On-Sea
charity's AGM later this week.
Tony
Bullimore, who famously survived for five days in an upturned
boat during the 1996/97 round the world yacht race, will give
a talk about his experiences during Friday's annual general meeting
of BARB, the charity that operates Burnham's rescue hovercrafts.
The
yachtsman will also be given a tour of the seafront hovercraft
station and will meet crewmembers during his visit.
Mr
Bullimore grabbed national news headlines in 1997 when he survived
five days in an air pocket in his capsized boat in the Southern
Ocean with only a bar of chocolate and limited fresh water.
His
upturned yacht was spotted by an Australian Navy ship after an
extensive search. When the rescuers banged on the boat's hull,
they were amazed to hear Mr Bullimore knock back and swim out
from underneath the vessel.
BARB's
AGM will be held at 8pm this Friday in Burnham's Town Council
Chambers in Jaycroft Road.
