Minimal disruption at Burnham schools during national teachers strike

Just one school in the Burnham-On-Sea area was disrupted by the nationwide teachers strike held on Thursday (April 24th).

The first teachers' strike for two decades disrupted a third of schools across England and Wales - including 27 schools in Somerset - but only school was affected in Burnham.

St Josephs RC School saw several classes affected by the action.

Rallies were held by the National Union of Teachers around the country, as the organisation demanded a 4.1% pay increase rather than the 2.45% on offer.

The one-day strike is the opening move in what the teachers' union says will be a long-term campaign over pay.
