Huge
storm waves batter Burnham-On-Sea seafront
Huge
waves struck Burnham-On-Sea for a third day running on Wednesday
morning (March 12th) as storm-force winds created heavy seas.
Waves
crashed over the sea wall onto The Esplanade in front of Quantock
Court (pictured above), leaving pools of sea water along the seafront.
The
scenes were repeated along the seafront - and the Environment
Agency once again closed the town's flood gates at the Sailing
Club, jetty and Maddock's Slade as a precaution against flooding.
The
10.1metre tide reached its height at 9.47am. This week's powerful
storms left a yacht stranded after it broke free of its moorings
at the town's Sailing Club, and a huge buoy was washed up besides
Burnham beach - see links below for details.
The Environment Agency lifted the flood warning covering
the Bristol Channel at 12:12pm on Wednesday afternoon (March 12th).
It had been in place since March 9th.

Burnham
Sailing Club members removed debris from the town's sailing pontoons
and checked for any damage

Several
fences were blown down by the gales along the town's seafront
overnight and into Wednesday morning
