Burnham
seafront signs get a spring clean
thanks to local councillor
A
winter of storms and high winds has left signs along Burnham's
seafront looking worse for wear, so work has begun this week on
refurbishing them in time for the start of the tourist season.
When
town councillor Peter Clayton heard the council had been quoted
a bill of several hundred pounds to repaint the finger posts along
The Esplanade, he and several friends sprung into action to do
the job for free.
"I
am pleased to help save the tax payer a little bit of money,"
he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
"I
am by no means a professional, but I have been involved in other
improvements around the town in recent years - including refurbishing
the War Memorial Hospital and repainting the town signs along
roads into Burnham."
Cllr
Clayton added: "The finger posts are in much worse condition
than we first thought and will all have to be stripped right down
to the metal. The salt water has got under the old paint and is
bubbling up in places."
