New
jackets boost safety for Burnham-On-Sea school children
Children
from a Burnham-On-Sea school have been handed new high visibility
jackets to keep them 'safe and seen' following a new initiative
between police and local businesses.
Children
at St Joseph's Primary School have been given the bright yellow
jackets to ensure they are properly seen when walking to and from
school and when out on school events.
Burnham
police linked up with Highbridge's Total Fina Elf garage and manufacturers
Suni UK to supply the jackets to pupils.
PCSO
Sarah England, who is behind the scheme, said she hopes the jackets
will reduce the risk of road traffic collisions involving young
people.
She
said: "Road safety is very important and these vests mean
motorists can better see children walking to and from school."
"If
the children are out on school trips or visits, it also means
they can be better seen and kept together by teachers and school
staff."
St
Joseph's is based in Oxford Street, a very busy road in Burnham
with a large number of cars passing throughout the day.
PCSO
England added: "A big thank you goes to the local businesses
who have helped pay for the vests."
