Burnham-On-Sea businessman dies at 62
A
well-known Burnham-On-Sea businessman and former councillor has
died at the age of 62.
Mike
Turco, pictured, passed away last week after a short illness.
He
was leader of Sedgemoor District Council between 1977 and 1979
and, in his role as the porfolio holder for leisure, oversaw the
introduction of Burnham's swimming pool and King Alfred School
Sports Centre.
A
well-known businessman, Mike owned a thriving financial services
firm in Burnham town centre and was Chairman of the town's Chamber
of Trade for several years.
He
was also a member of the selection panel that chose David Heathcoat-Amory
as the Conservative parliamentary candidate for the constituency
of Wells. He went on to become the treasurer of the local Conservative
Association.
More
recently, Mike was one of the leading names involved with the
Save Our Swimming Pool campaign group where he was treasurer.
SOS
group chairman Tom Ashton is among many in the town who have this
week said he will be greatly missed.
Mr
Turco's funeral will be held at 11am on Tuesday March 4th in St
Andrew's Church, Burnham-On-Sea.
