Burnham councillors call
for house developer to create Foley cycle path
Burnham-On-Sea
councillors gave the green light to 39 new homes near
the controversial Frank Foley Parkway on
Tuesday night (January 22nd) and, in an unexpected twist, called
on the property developer to fund a new cycle path along the half-finished
road.
Burnham-On-Sea.com
reported last month
how Swindon-based company Bloor Homes had applied for planning
permission to build 39 dwellings and garages on land at Rosewood
Farm off Ben Travers Way as part of the fourth phase of development
at the site.
The
proposals were considered by town councillors at Tuesday's meeting
of the Burnham Planning Applications Committee - and were given
the thumbs-up.
However,
Chairman Peter Clayton said: "Whilst we are approving the
plans, we would do want to request that the developer contributes
funds towards the completion of the Frank Foley Parkway and introduces
a cycle path at the very least."
Cllr
Chris Williams added: "Even if Bloor cannot complete the
Frank Foley Parkway itself, they should contribute to a cycle
path - with suitable bollards to prevent vehicles using it - so
at least cyclists can get through."
The
scheme is set to be reviewed by Sedgemoor's Development Control
Committee during the next few weeks.
