A
colourful three-day flower festival opened in East Huntspill,
near Burnham-On-Sea, on Saturday (May 3rd).
The
show is being held in All Saint's Church throughout the Bank Holiday
to raise funds towards the £5,000 cost of refurbishing the
church's 40-year-old organ.
"Over
30 colourful flower arrangements have been created by the village's
residents and children, all using themes that start with the letters
spelling out the word 'organ'," said organiser Myra Cox.
"We've
had a steady flow of people and will be open each day over the
holiday weekend from 10.30am until 5pm and Sunday through to 8pm."
Geoffery
Walsh, rector of All Saints Church, said: "Our organ has
given well over 40 years service and is an extremely fine example
of the instruments built at that time. There were many instruments
of this type built during this time but few survive, as this does,
in their original condition."
"To
keep this instrument in good working order, the builders have
recommended a full overhaul costing £5,000 to the church."
"Various
local groups have brought this flower festival into being. I thank
them for their hard work and their gift of flower arranging."
