Burnham-On-Sea
crime figures continue to show downward trend

Crime
in Burnham-On-Sea has decreased year-on-year for a ninth consecutive
month, according to the latest official figures.
Levels
of monthly crime fell in Burnham between June 2007 and the end
of February 2008, when compared to the same months last year,
as shown on the graph above.
Criminal
damage, assaults, harassment and thefts of vehicles have fallen
the most during the last year, while domestic burglaries and thefts
from vehicles have shown a small increase.
Sergeant
Ian Kennett of Burnham Police said that increased numbers of Police
Community Support Officers (PCSOs) on the streets of the town
and improved crime awareness among the public have contributed
to the figures.
"The
picture as a whole is good, with crime in Burnham showing a downward
trend, but we're certainly not becoming complacent and want to
further reduce it further," he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
"The
figures are due to a combination of more PCSOs on the town's streets
and police getting the safety message out to residents."
Meanwhile,
the latest figures also show the amount of crimes where there
has been some form of legal sanction taken against the offender
- such as court action, cautions or fines - has risen from 24%
to 27.4% year-on-year in Burnham.
