Burnham-On-Sea's annual Civic Awards winners are announced
The
five winners of
this year's Burnham-On-Sea Civic Awards were announced by the
town's Mayor on Monday evening (August 4th).
John
Coombes, Bob Nicholson, Barbara Thorogood, Hilary Rose and Jean
Whitehouse have all been nominated for their work in the Burnham
and Highbridge community.
The
late Mr Coombes was nominated for his contribution to the social,
cultural and intellectual life of Burnham.
He
sadly died in April this year just days after hearing he had been
nominated and his wife Pat will therefore collect his award at
the annual Civic Awards ceremony in Burnham's St Andrew's Church
on Sunday August 24th.
Barbara
Thorogood, pictured above, was nominated for her years of involvement
within Burnham's Gateway Club, BAY Centre, playgroup and Stroke
Club.
Bob
Nicholson, pictured right, has been nominated as a driving force
in the promotion of local tourism for some 30 years.
Hilary
Rose was put forward for her long involvement with the Sea Cadet
Unit and the French Twinning Association.
And
Jean Whitehouse was put nominated as one of the driving forces
behind the conception of the Highbridge Community Hall.
The
Civic Awards Service will start at 3pm on August 24th and will
be followed by a reception in the town's Manor Gardens.
