Council
offices in Highbridge
close
as financial squeeze bites

Financial
cutbacks have led to council offices in Highbridge closing down
this week.
The
Alpha House cash office in Market Street has been permanently
shut by Sedgemoor District Council in order to save thousands
of pounds.
A
notice posted outside the premises on Saturday (March 29th), pictured,
apologises for the inconvenience caused and points residents towards
council services via phone, email and the Web.
Sedgemoor
District Council's £1.8m funding defecit is behind the closure.
Its
Executive Committee recently said that closing the offices in
Highbridge and Cheddar would generate savings of around £38,000
a year.
