Highbridge’s King Alfred School set to celebrate its 50th anniversary

-

King Alfred School in Highbridge is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year with a special open evening and the publication of a ‘memories book’ featuring stories from former pupils and staff.

The school opened on its present site in 1957 and wants to collect memories from anyone who has been associated with it in order to produce the book later this year.

“We would like as many personal recollections as possible and it appears from recent contributions to Burnham-On-Sea.com’s discussion forums that locals do have many memories of the characters on the teaching staff,” said a spokesman.

“It would be great to have students’ memories of school trips, visits abroad, the farm unit, pranks and sports days. We would also like contributions from cleaners, dinner ladies and staff – anyone who has had some connection with the school in its 50 years and has a story to tell.”

If you would like to make an entry, write to the school head teacher or visit the school’s website and click on ‘Memories Book’ and write in with your story.

To mark the 50-year milestone, the school will also be holding a special open evening on Thursday July 19th from 7pm to 9pm.

Anyone in the community will be welcome to drop by. Free refreshments and tours will be on offer.
