Geno tops the bill at 2008 Under A Summer Moon concert

The final line-up for this summer's annual Under a Summer Moon concert in Burnham-On-Sea has been announced.

The popular concert will be held on Saturday 26th July at Burnham’s BASC Ground.

Top of the bill will be 'Geno Washington and his Ram Jam Band' (pictured right), supported by The Move, Hogg, The Communicators, Re-Offender and Wilderland. Also featured will be internationally-known rock artist Pete Pracownik.

Unlike previous years, the event will be held entirely undercover following the bad weather of last year when several performers pulled out at the last minute.

Tickets are on sale now, priced £12.50 in advance from GC Music and The Old Pier Tavern, with credit card sales on 01278 783161.

"We intend to bring Burnham a quality show that is affordable. It will be a popular line-up without the use of tribute bands," said organiser Jeff Ham of Alfresco Events, the newly-formed group that has taken over the running the concert.

Geno Washington is generally acknowledged as the leading soul artist in the UK, while The Move are a 1960s rock sensation featuring Bev Bevan (drums) and Trevor Burton (lead guitar and vocals).

The Communicators are a well-known South West of England ska band (pictured right), and Re-Offender is a cover band from Weston-Super-Mare.

Hogg is a three-piece high energy rock band that recently played at the Isle of Wight Music Festival and Hyde Park.

The group features John Hogg (vocals and guitar) and Martin Wright (drums) and Jesse Wood (bass).

Wilderland, who will be opening the show, are from North Devon and play a mix of folk, punk, celtic rock and American Roots.

The event's special guest will be internationally known rock artist Pete Pracownik, who will be available for signing examples of his work.

Wilderland to open Burnham's Under A Summer Moon

Opening the show will be 'Wilderland' (pictured right) from North Devon, playing a mix of folk, punk, celtic rock and American roots. Wilderland is a solo artist that has been described by many as ‘Shane Mcgowan Meets Woody Guthrie’.

‘Geno Washington and his Ram Jam Band’ will be topping the bill. Geno is generally acknowledged as the leading soul artist in the UK. Geno and his Ram Jam Band were responsible for the third longest staying chart LP in the 1960s, which spent 48 weeks in the British top 20 album chart). During Geno’s successful career, he has been supported by Jimmy Hendrix, The Cream and Pink Floyd on his various tours.

Supporting Geno are 60’s rock sensation 'The Move' featuring Bev Bevan on drums and Trevor Burton, lead guitar and vocals. The Move have had nine top twenty singles, including ‘Night of Fear’, ‘Flowers in the Rain’, ‘Blackberry Way’, and are currently being featured by Radio One as the first band to ever be played on the station.

The organisers are also negotiating with a special guest and hope to be announcing further bands over the next few weeks.

Burnham music promoters step in to oversee summer concert

A group of Burnham-On-Sea music promoters has saved the future of the town's annual 'Under A Summer Moon' concert.

The popular outdoor concert was left in apparent jeopardy after last year's event was judged a wash-out after bad weather.

But Jamie Roberts of the Old Pier Tavern, Gordon Clayton and Jeff Ham of Burnham Rock, and Malcolm’s PAs, have stepped in to save the event.

The group (pictured), known as 'Alfresco Events', have unveiled the line-up of musicians scheduled to play at the 2008 concert, which will be held at Burnham's BASC Ground on Saturday 26th July. Bearing in mind the problems of 2007, provision has been made to put the event under cover in case of more poor weather.
