Beach
lights spark night-time alert for Burnham Coastguards
Burnham-On-Sea
Coastguards were called out in the early hours of Saturday morning,
March 11th, after a holidaymaker became concerned after seeing
lights on the town's beach.
The
alarm was raised at 1am when the man spotted several lights on
the beach south of Burnham's low lighthouse.
Coastguard
station officer Steve Bird said: "We quickly went down to
the beach in front of Atlanta Quay, near Maddocks
Slade, and realised the lights were coming from nearby fishermen."
"We
checked they were safe and well, then stood down. This was a false
alarm with good intent."
