Professional
engineers group given tour of Burnham hovercraft station
A
group of professional engineers were given a VIP tour of Burnham-On-Sea's
hovercraft station this week during an official visit to learn
more about how the town's two rescue hovercrafts work.
Fifteen
members of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers were given
a guided tour of the Marine Rescue Centre by volunteers from BARB,
the charity that operates the Spirit Of Lelaina and Light Of Elizabeth
hovercrafts.
Jon
Smith, chairman of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, said:
"Hovercrafts make fascinating, unusual vehicles and our members
were very keen to pay a visit to Burnham to find out how they're
being used along the Somerset coast. It was a very interesting,
worthwhile evening."
The
group made a donation to BARB as a gesture of their thanks.
